UP speeds up trains at five San Antonio crossings

Union Pacific Railroad is increasing train speed on a nearly quarter-mile track segment in San Antonio. Speed will increase from 30 mph to 40 mph at two grade crossings, and from 20 mph to 30 mph at three crossings.

The Class I recently improved the track section to accommodate higher trains speeds. The operating change will improve public traffic flow and boost crossing safety because statistics show more crossing collisions occur at slower train speeds, UP said.
