Union Pacific Railroad recently received General Motors Corp.'s 2003 Supplier of the Year Award for the third-straight year.

Introduced in 1992, the award recognizes a supplier's quality, service, technology and price. Winners are selected by a GM team comprising global purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and logistics executives.

"Union Pacific has a balanced focus on performance and behavior that supports GM's priorities — they are a role model for all of our suppliers," said Bo Andersson, vice president of GM worldwide purchasing control and logistics, in a prepared statement.

The only railroad amongst 77 recipients, UP serves six GM plants and moves more than 2.4 million of the automaker's vehicles annually.
