Union Pacific Railroad plans to increase train speed from 30 mph to 50 mph on about 13 miles of track between Knapp and Rusk, Wis.

Speed will be increased 10 mph on April 22 and another 10 mph on April 29.

UP recently upgraded the line to accommodate higher train speeds. The Class I replaced rail and ties, installed a switch and improved road surfaces at 36 grade crossings.

Last year, UP spent $8.4 million on track improvements between Altoona and Rusk.
