UP to offer online freight bills
advertisement
Freight bills soon will be moving online at Union Pacific Railroad. The Class I Oct. 23 agreed to purchase Mellon Global Cash Management's Mellon TradeLinks(sm), a business-to-business electronic invoice presentment and payment, and Web document exchange service.
UP — which currently mails 800,000 printed freight bills annually — plans to use the system to enable customers who receive mailed bills to instead obtain bills on the railroad's Web site, www.uprr.com. UP then could reduce its mailing and paper costs.
Mellon TradeLinks would enable UP customers to view, dispute and electronically pay bills. The system is designed to provide immediate payment confirmation, reduce paperwork and more quickly resolve billing disputes.
