UP to raise scrap-steel rates
advertisement
Union Pacific Railroad plans May 1 to increase its rates for scrap steel, including scrap iron, steel and scrap substitutes, "to support reinvestment in our equipment and in the railroad," according to a notice posted Feb. 1 to the Class I's Web site.
The $50 per-car increase, which UP plans to add to its public price inquiry May 1, would apply to the railroad's direct and interline moves, and affect the following commodities: iron/steel scrap, slag residue, iron carbide, mill scale, pig iron and furnace slag.
