UP to speed trains through Texas town

advertisement

On Nov. 14, Union Pacific Railroad plans to begin doubling train speeds on two lines that run through Smithville, Texas.

Track improvements will enable speeds to increase 5 mph each week until Nov. 28. Speeds on one line will increase from 15 mph to 30 mph; the other will increase from 20 mph to 40 mph.

Earlier this year, UP began increasing speeds through several communities by modifying grade crossing signals so trains operate more efficiently and motorists aren’t stopped at crossings as long, according to a prepared statement.
