Union Pacific Railroad is increasing train speed in several Louisiana and Texas cities to improve grade crossing safety. Recent accident statistics show more crossing collisions occur at slower trains speeds, UP said.

The railroad is increasing train speed from 40 mph to 70 mph in Keatchie and southern Shreveport, La.; and from 25 mph to 50 mph in Logansport, La. UP will boost speed 5 mph per week until trains reach new maximum speeds in early October.

The Class I also will increase train speed from 40 mph to 50 mph through Joaquin, Tenaha, Timpson and Garrison, Texas. The railroad will raise speed 5 mph per week until trains reach the new speed limit in mid-September.
