Rail News: Rail Industry Trends

UP to speed up trains in three Texas towns

advertisement

Today, Union Pacific Railroad plans to begin increasing train speed from 40 mph to 60 mph through Ferris, Palmer and Garrett, Texas.

The railroad will increase speed 5 mph each week until the new limit is reached Aug. 30.

UP recently improved track in and around the towns to accommodate higher train speeds. During the past few years, the railroad has increased train speeds through a number of communities — including seven Texas towns last year and three more in June — after upgrading track and improving grade crossing signals.
