UP to speed up trains on Illinois line

advertisement

Later this week, Union Pacific Railroad will begin increasing train speed on a line between Carpenter and Mitchell, Ill. Trains temporarily have been restricted to 25 mph because of track and operating constraints.

On Dec. 16, UP will boost train speed to 40 mph; the Class I then will increase speed 10 mph each week until trains reach the previous maximum speed limit of 60 mph on Dec. 30.

UP recently improved the line to accommodate faster train speeds.
