UP to speed up trains through two Texas towns

advertisement

On July 1, Union Pacific Railroad will begin increasing train speeds through Waxahachie and Corsicana, Texas. The Class I plans to increase speeds 5 mph each week until trains reach 40 mph in Waxahachie and 50 mph in Corsicana on July 22.

Currently, trains travel through Waxahachie and Corsicana at 20 mph and 30 mph, respectively, because of track and operating constraints. UP recently improved track in and around the towns to accommodate higher train speeds.

During the past few years, the railroad has increased train speeds through a number of communities — including seven Texas towns in 2003 — after upgrading track and improving grade crossing signals.
