Which railroad is America’s most admired? For the second-straight year, it’s Union Pacific Railroad, according to Fortune magazine.

Fortune surveys industry analysts, board members, and corporate and railroad executives to determine America’s most admired companies. The magazine recently ranked UP as the rail industry leader based on the following categories: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, management quality, financial soundness and long-term investment.

Norfolk Southern Corp. finished second in Fortune’s railroad rankings, followed by BNSF Railway Co. at No. 3 and CSX Corp. at No. 4.

The magazine named General Electric Co. the nation’s most admired company. Other top-20 finishers include United Parcel Service, Wal-Mart Stores, Southwest Airlines, Google, Microsoft and Starbucks.
