UP upgrades Kansas track
advertisement
Union Pacific Railroad March 16 began a $6.1 million track upgrade on its line between Hiawatha and Seneca, Kan.
The project, to be completed by late May, includes surfacing and lining 35 track miles, removing and replacing 28,181 wood crossties, spreading 126,000 tons of rock ballast, and replacing 68 grade-crossing surfaces.
The line, part of a 107-mile stretch that UP repurchased from RailTex Inc. in August 1998 to help boost its coal-corridor capacity, primarily supports empty westbound coal cars moving between Upland and Hiawatha, Kan.
