Union Pacific Railroad Oct. 4 announced a $6.8 million plan to improve its line between New Braunfels and Round Rock, Texas.
Maintenance crews Oct. 1 began removing and replacing 14,200 concrete crossties, and installing rail on a 5.3-mile stretch north of Austin's Town Lake bridge (scheduled to be complete Oct. 8), and replacing 13,000 wood ties just north of Austin to Round Rock (to be complete Oct. 17).
Beginning Oct. 19, crews will replace 8,300 wood ties from Town Lake bridge south to Buda (to be complete Oct. 26). UP also plans by late October to install nearly 18 miles of rail between New Braunfels and San Marcos.
