UP wins Toyota Logistics awards; CSXT scores more ethanol business

Toyota Logistics Services recently named Union Pacific Railroad the recipient of the 2011 President’s Award, which recognizes the year’s top rail transportation provider. The award honors the Class I’s efforts to provide a high level of overall logistics service performance.
UP also received Toyota Logistics’ Excellence Awards for on-time service performance and outstanding customer service. Last year, the railroad transported more than 500,000 Toyota vehicles.
The awards are based on customer service scores, which rate communication, equipment supply, responsiveness, collaboration, business controls and ease of doing business; on-time performance scores, which measure online and through-route performance, and transit time improvements; and quality scores, which emphasize damage-free service, year-over-year damage reductions and process improvements.
“We remain committed to supporting Toyota with innovative transportation solutions and excellent service,” said Linda Brandl, UP’s vice president and general manager-automotive, in a prepared statement.
Meanwhile, Eco-Energy Holdings Inc. announced plans to develop a CSX Transportation-served ethanol unit train and storage facility in Cartersville, Ga., that would serve the Atlanta market.
The unit train terminal will be designed to handle 400,000 barrels of ethanol per month, store about 200,000 barrels and receive up to 96 rail cars via CSXT. Operations are expected to begin in second-quarter 2013.
“We also intend to further develop the site to service other industrial-related businesses seeking longer-term supply chain solutions,” said Gwaine Ton, Eco-Energy’s chief financial officer and chief operating officer, in a prepared statement.
