Union Pacific Railroad recently received Workforce Management magazine's Optimas Award, which recognizes companies' efforts to improve human resources management.

The railroad was honored in the "managing change" category for developing a workforce management program designed to adapt to changing business environments.

UP standardized application forms and created computer software to track an individual's application process, and developed an employment information center featuring an interactive telephone system.

"We've made significant progress over the last several years to streamline and standardize the employment application process at Union Pacific," said Director of Sourcing Jolene Jefferies in a prepared statement.
