As Class Is, BNSF Railway Co. CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Corp. and Union Pacific Corp. stand on top as the largest U.S. railroads. As corporations, they rank rather highly among the world’s top firms, too.

Forbes magazine recently released its “Global 2000” list of the world’s top 2,000 publicly owned corporations ranked by total sales, profits, assets and market value. BNSF ranked the highest among the Class Is at No. 281, followed by UP at No. 288, NS at No. 361 and CSXT at No. 500.

The list includes companies from more than 45 countries with total revenue surpassing $20 trillion, assets exceeding $70 trillion and profits topping $500 billion.
