Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) is sending transportation experts to Iraq to help reconstruct the country’s transportation system.
Federal Aviation Administration officials initially will visit Iraq, followed by rail, maritime and surface transportation experts. When Baghdad’s U.S. Embassy opens in July, a more permanent USDOT center will be established.
"This team will provide the expertise necessary to rebuild a transportation system for Iraq that can support its economic development," said Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta in a prepared statement.
USDOT also plans to offer more transportation assistance to Afghanistan, and strengthen transportation ties with Jordan and Kuwait.
