USDOT provides state freight-flow profiles
advertisement
On March 13, U.S. Department of Transportation released "State Freight Profiles," a series of short reports designed to provide state and city transportation planners a snapshot of each state's freight flows, and tonnage and traffic-pattern forecasts.
Planners can use the profiles to determine which corridors are experiencing — or will experience — large freight volumes. State and local agencies then can set congestion-alleviation strategies, or develop multi-state or regional approaches to reduce bottlenecks and help improve freight operations.
The profiles incorporate databases and economic forecasts from Freight Analysis Framework (FAF), which USDOT created last year with Federal Highway Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Maritime Administration, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and Secretary's Office of Intermodalism.
