On Sept. 30, U.S. Department of Transportation released its strategic plan for fiscal years 2003 through 2008.
The plan specifies how the department will pursue five core objectives of safety, mobility, global connectivity, environmental stewardship and security, and provides performance measures to assess each area's progress. While retaining four previous objectives, the updated plan now includes the new global connectivity goal to highlight the importance of using transportation systems to move goods and people around the world, according to a prepared statement.
USDOT relies on the plan to allocate budgetary resources among the five core objectives and carry out President Bush's management agenda.
"We continue to work toward a safer, simpler and smarter transportation system for the benefit of all Americans," said Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta.
