UTA to hold off on fare hike
advertisement
At a time when many transit agencies are proposing or implementing fare increases, one is actually postponing a ticket price hike.
The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) had planned to raise fares on Jan. 1 as the final phase of a three-part fare hike approved by the board in May 2007. However, the agency has decided to delay the fare hike until at least March 31, 2009, because of the sluggish economy.
"We are sensitive to the current economic climate," said UTA General Manager John Inglish in a prepared statement. "Times are tight, and we want to ease the burden on our riders."
However, UTA's fuel surcharge, which was implemented earlier this year, will remain in place.
