•    ALK Technologies Inc. has released PC*MILER Rail 17, the newest version of its rail routing, mileage and mapping software system. The recently updated system includes “feature enhancements” such as directional routing for accurate mileage over one-way rail lines, the ability to view mileage split between participating carriers for interline routes in the batch processing module and new function calls for the programming interface.

•    L.B. Foster Co. is extending its cash tender offer for all outstanding shares of common stock of Portec Rail Products Inc. until midnight EST tine on Nov. 15. The tender offer was previously set to expire at midnight on Sept. 30.

•    Deutsche Bahn Netz AG has received its new tamping surveying system for track maintenance from Amberg Technologies. The Swiss tamping surveying system unites track position and distance surveying in a single system and can be used for both new track installations and maintenance.

•    J.L. Patterson & Associates Inc. has placed fifth on the CE News magazine's 2010 list of Best Civil Engineering Firms to work for. This is J.L. Patterson’s highest ranking on the list, after placing 11th in the small firms category in 2009.
