• Alstom has unveiled the Prima II locomotive prototype. Later this month, the locomotive will be transferred to Wildenrath in Germany for a series of running trials. The locomotive, which later will move into the certification phase, is scheduled to be commissioned in 2011. The Prima II is designed to operate between different national rail networks in Europe and on four different voltages. In November 2007, Morocco's Office National des Chemins de Fer ordered 20 Prima II units for use in freight and passenger operations. Delivery is scheduled to begin in the third quarter.

• Bombardier Transportation has marked the first BOMBARDIER MOVIA metro train manufactured at its new facility in Savli, Vadodara-Gujarat, India. The train is part of an order for 424 MOVIA metro cars for the Delhi Metro Rail Corp. The new Gujarat plant, which will serve India and the southeast Asia region, is the first Indian facility to be wholly owned by a global foreign company, Bombardier said.

• BASF Professional Vegetation Management (ProVM) announced 48 vegetation management companies have achieved a status as 2009 QVM certified applicators. The companies, which include more than 400 individual applicators, obtained the certification after undergoing advanced training, showing a commitment to quality vegetation management and employing responsible application strategies, BASF ProVM said.

• DuPont announced it applied for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency registration for four new herbicides: DuPont™ Plainview™; DuPont™ Streamline™; DuPont™ Viewpoint™; and DuPont™ Perspective™. The herbicides are designed to control or eliminate vegetation growth. All four products contain a new active ingredient, aminocyclopyrachlor, said DuPont. Pending regulatory approvals, the herbicides will be available in second-half 2010.
