• Alstom Transport, as part of a consortium with Kawasaki and CTCI, has obtained a contract worth $115.8 million from the Taipei Department of Rapid Transit Systems to supply signaling systems for Taichung’s green line. The contract covers train control and signaling, platform screen doors and an integrated control center. In addition, Alstom and CTCI will jointly supply the communication, CCTV and fare collection systems.

• Alstom also announced it created with joint venture partner RATP Group a laboratory for the research of automated, urban and suburban transport solutions. The combined expertise will enable Metrolab to develop complete systems for infrastructure, rolling stock, signaling, passenger information, operations and maintenance, according to Alstom. Solutions developed by the lab will be marketed under the name Optimet.

• Miner Enterprises Inc. will supply its DuraShield™ trough hatch cover for TrinityRail-built grain cars as part of a multi-train covered hopper car purchase by Norfolk Southern Railway. The DuraShield cover provides a lightweight, highly durable, low profile design with a high-performance seal, according to Miner. NS began testing the covers on some hopper cars in 2009. After a year of unrestricted service, they passed NS’ inspection, Miner officials said.

• AECOM Technology Corp. has obtained a $32.5 million contract extension from the city of Edmonton, Canada, to provide management and engineering services of the city’s light-rail extension from downtown to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. The company recently completed the design for the $782 million extension. Under the extended contract, AECOM will provide project management and engineering services during construction.

• Rail Safety Consulting L.L.C. (RSC) has obtained a contract to supply CN with positive train control (PTC) services, including technical support for completing federally required PTC documentation and supporting evidence for system certification.

• Vossloh Electrical Systems recently obtained a $145 million contract to supply TW 3000 urban light-rail vehicles to transport company üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG in Hanover, Germany. The order provides a total order intake of $434.8 million for the first quarter, according to the company. “This new big order is another proof for the upswing in locomotive and local transport vehicle market,” said Vossloh CEO Werner Andree in a prepared statement.

• Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. is one of three transportation consultants to receive a contract from Werkmaatschappij Almere-Amsterdam to develop a transportation concept study and business case for the IJmeerverbinding public transport corridor over the IJmeer east of Amsterdam. Jacobs’ London office will work in partnership with Dutch management consultants APPM and design bureau POSAD.
