• Ansaldo STS USA has obtained a contract from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to replace an existing interlocking at the Silver Spring Station. The interlocking upgrade is the first step of WMATA’s effort to refurbish their existing system with a MicroLok® II interlocking controller for vital and non-vital functionality, according to Ansaldo STS USA. The project incorporates several firsts for the authority, including the use of metal housing structures instead of constructed rooms, a distributed remote terminal unit arrangement, the first piece of fiber optic-connected vital communications and the use of LCD local control panels, Ansaldo STS USA said.
• Nordco Inc. has expanded its rebuilt maintenance-of-way machine program to include Pyke/Nordco Model KL, M and M2 ballast regulator/snow fighters. Nordco rebuilds the machines from the frame up to provide like-new equipment. The rebuilds incorporate many of the technology upgrades included in Nordco’s current M7 Ballast Regulator/Snow Fighter. The company also rebuilds its grabber and super claw spike pullers, anchor applicator and auto-lift, and offers a complete conversion of its Model C spiker to an updated Model CX hammer spiker.
• The Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad Corp. (DM&E) has joined e-VERIFILE.com’s e-RAILSAFE ShortLine, a Web-based system designed to help regionals and short lines manage routine workforce safety and security functions. • RailComm Inc. has named Tim Brown business development manager. He has more than 20 years of manufacturing and marketing experience with railroad equipment, including hydraulic MOW tools and railroad control systems for yard applications. Brown previously served numerous U.S., Canadian and Mexican Class Is, short lines and industrial railroads in various capacities.
• HCL AXON announced it entered into a partnership with CN to develop iCREW. Based on SAP® software, iCREW will be designed to address crew management requirements of organizations that have complex work and job assignment, and tracking rules. HCL AXON will work with CN to develop a rail industry standard system for transportation personnel. iCREW will enable railroads to plan, schedule and assign crews; manage job boards, rotations and bulletins; and provide rule processing for end-of-shift reporting, claims validation and other functions.
• Parsons Brinckerhoff has named Peter Valentine senior engineering manager. He will serve as one of seven regional managers for the California high-speed rail project and be responsible for the Central Valley Region between Sacramento and Frenso, and Altamont Corridor between Stockton and San Jose.
