• Atlantic Track and Turnout Co. recently broke ground on a 20,000-square-foot addition to its Richmond, Ill., trackwork manufacturing facility. To be completed by April 1, the addition will house new equipment, and provide additional indoor space for turnout panels and storage. Founded in 1924, Atlantic Track provides new and reconditioned switches and trackwork components; composite third rail; fiberglass insulators and coverboard; new and relay rails; and other materials.

• Rail Scale Inc. appointed Dennis Myers president to succeed Jack Payne, who will continue to serve the company in an advisory role. Myers has more than 28 years of railroading experience and has held various positions at Union Pacific Railroad and Southwest Signal Engineering Co.  He will report to Chief Executive Officer James Mayer. Rail Scale provides various railroad scale testing and certification services.

• Balfour Beatty Rail Inc. has named Jalene Forbis director of business development for the company’s Rail Services Division in the West Coast and Texas regions. She will be responsible for development of the firm’s construction and maintenance-of-way services for Class Is, regionals, short lines, and industrial and port markets. A fifth-generation railroader, Forbis serves as vice president-Pacific Region for the American Short Line Railroad Association and executive director of the California Short Line Railroad Association. She began her railroad career at McCloud Railway Co. in 1992 and worked her way up to vice president in charge of marketing and personnel. In 2006, Forbis received the League of Railway Industry Women’s top Woman of the Year award, which is sponsored by Progressive Railroading.

• Hatch Mott MacDonald has acquired Gibson Engineers P.C., a Fuquay-Varina, N.C., engineering firm that provides rail and highway design, and transportation planning services. Gibson Engineers will strengthen Hatch Mott MacDonald’s transportation engineering practice in the Southeast, according to a prepared statement. Hatch Mott MacDonald plans to expand the firm’s infrastructure services.

• Recycled composite plastic crosstie supplier Axion International recently completed its first project with Moroccan national railway ONCF. Under a $100,000 test order, Axion provided recycled plastic composite ties that were installed at Morocco’s Rabat Agdal station, which is located between Casablanca and Tangier. The ties were produced at Axion’s Portland, Pa., plant.
