• Metro de Madrid has approved Bombardier's CITYFLO 650 CBTC system for commercial operation on the new 8400 series metro cars being introduced on Line 6 of the city's Metro system.  The system is in place on the 5000 series metro cars already in operation. The approval will enable the entire operating fleet on Line 6 to be equipped with CBTC.

• Siemens Mobility Division has received three orders from China for the supply of propulsion systems. A total of 93 new trains will be equipped with propulsion technology and deployed on the Shanghai Metro Line 11, Zhengzhou Metro Line 1 and Ningbo Metro Line 1. The equipment package includes gearboxes, auxiliary converter units traction motors, traction converters and train control systems.

• Pepco Energy Services Inc., a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings Inc., has obtained a $6.2 million, 15-year energy savings performance contract from the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). Pepco Energy will install lighting retrofits and occupancy sensors, and complete daylight harvesting and other energy conservation measures to help MTA reduce energy consumption. The MTA received funding from a local utility rebate program and the Maryland Energy Administration Project Sunburst grant program to help finance the project.

• Michael Baker Jr. Inc. recently announced three new appointments: Dennis Wiehl, vice president-architecture; Michael Arens, assistant vice president, transportation principal and cost center manager for the Salt Lake City Transportation Group; and Peter Hankovszky, assistant vice president, transportation manager for the state of Washington.

• Mitsubishi Electric Power Products General Manager Arthur Nagy has announced his retirement, effective April 1. Nagy joined Mitsubishi Electric Power Products in 2003 and is credited with establishing shop operations and division growth. Prior to Mitsubishi, Nagy held management positions in engineering, procurement, contracts and sales for rail equipment suppliers, including Westinghouse Electric, Magnetek, ADtranz and Bombardier.

• Axion International has named Cory Burdick sales representative. Burdick previously spent more than three years with TieTek L.L.C., a composite tie supplier, where he was a "major contributor" to more than $10 million in sales through new key accounts and distributors, Axion officials said in a prepared statement.
