• GATX Corp. recently purchased a 12.5 percent interest in Adler Funding L.L.C., which owns about 5,350 rail cars. GATX also will manage Adler's rail-car portfolio.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) won a contract from the Detroit Department of Transportation to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for a $400 million, 9.3-mile light-rail system. Completion of the EIS is slated for July 2011. PB already has completed socio-economic, traffic and noise studies, and preliminary cultural resources investigations for the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2016.

• Don Sherman has rejoined HDR as director of strategic pursuits for transportation; he'll oversee the business group's global strategic pursuits program. Sherman, who has more than 35 years of industry experience, most recently was chief marketing and sales officer for MWH Global Inc. He previously served HDR from 1998 to 2008.
