• Gannett Fleming has named William Colon vice president and director of transportation services in the northeast region, where he will oversee business development project performance, and engineering design of highway and bridge projects. He has more than 35 years of experience in the development, design and construction of transportation infrastructure projects and programs.

• Noveko International Inc. and Kinkisharyo International L.L.C. have signed a three-year contract through which Kinkisharyo will lease Novkeo’s recyclable filters to equip the fleet of the Hudson-Bergen light-rail line in New Jersey. Kinkisharyo manufactured the line’s vehicles and also provides all light-rail vehicle maintenance under a long-term contract.

• Axion International announced that Tom Nosker, a professor of materials, science and engineering at Rutgers University and the inventor Axion’s recycled structural composite crosstie, was recognized by Inventors Digest as one of the nation’s top five mechanical engineers.  “The success of the bridges that Axion has built using the technology that Tom helped pioneer … is proof of the success of concept,” said Axion co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Jim Kerstein in a prepared statement.

• RailRunner N.A. Inc. has appointed Anders Flensborg to its advisory board. He will provide business advice and services in support RailRunner’s European development. He has more than 20 years of experience in the international shipping industry, including stints at British P&O Group, Rewe/Deutsches Reiseburo, and the Agency for Maritime Transport Solutions.  

• Mark Meyer, equipment director of Balfour Beatty Rail, and his wife, Holly Meyer, died April 8 after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Texas. Mark Meyer joined Balfour Beatty in 2008, after serving 34 years at BNSF Railway Co., where he managed railway equipment maintenance, repairs and operations. He was active in many industry issues, including as chairman of the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association’s equipment auction committee in 2010.
