• On Dec. 15, L.B. Foster Co. announced the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia signed an order and its subsidiary Foster Thomas Co. completed a cash tender offer regarding the acquisition of Portec Rail Products Inc. Foster Thomas has accepted for payment all shares validly tendered by Dec. 15, L.B. Foster said.

• Progress Rail Services Corp. has acquired the assets of Coast to Coast Signal Engineering Inc., which provides signal engineering services to Class Is, short lines and other signal engineering firms. The acquisition strengthens Progress Rail’s position in signal design and manufacturing, enabling the company to offer a wider range of signal products and services, including wiring, material procurement, surveys and in-service testing, Progress Rail officials said in a prepared statement. Coast to Coast Signal Engineering will operate under Progress Rail’s signal division as part of the Engineering and Track Services group.

• Ansaldo STS obtained a $60 million contract from joint venture Kazakhstan TZ – Ansaldo STS Italy Ltd. Liability Partnership to design, supply, install and commission signaling systems and telecommunications for the 186-mile Zhetygen-Korgas line in Kazakhstan. The contact positions Ansaldo for a “massive investment program” in Kazakhstan aimed at upgrading the nation’s rail network during the next 10 years, according to a prepared statement.

• Norgren Inc. won a contract from Talgo Inc. to supply doors for Intercity Series 8 trains. The doors are designed with an integral controller to provide passenger detection and anti-entrapment functions. Norgren will produce the doors at its Littleton, Colo., plant.

• Planning, design and construction management firm Gannett Fleming recently marked its 95th anniversary. Since the firm was founded on Aug. 1, 1915, it has grown from a two-person office in Harrisburg, Pa., that specialized in water resources to an international company employing more than 2,100. Gannett Fleming’s Transit & Rail Practice provides various services for high-speed, freight- and transit-rail projects.
