• Progress Rail Services Corp. and Norfolk Southern Railway have announced the order of additional EPA Tier 2-compliant, high-horsepower repower locomotives. In 2008, NS and Progress Rail launched a cooperative effort to develop the "PR43C" repower locomotive. Since then, two PR43C prototypes have been built and placed in service on NS' system. The Class I now has ordered four additional PR43C locomotives, scheduled for delivery later this year. The PR43C is remanufactured from reusable locomotive cores and has a duel-engine configuration, according to Progress Rail.

• Bombardier reported revenue totaling $4.1 billion for the second quarter of fiscal-year 2011 vs. $4.9 billion for the year-ago period. Net income totaled $148 million compared with $202 million in 2Q FY2010. Bombardier Transportation revenue totalled $2.1 billion vs. $2.5 billion for the year-ago period. Bombardier also announced it received an order for 100 multi-level commuter-rail cars from New Jersey Transit. The contract is valued at $267 million and includes options for up to 79 additional vehicles.

• Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. named Min Wei vice president of financial operations worldwide. Since early 2010, Wei has served in an acting capacity following Matt Cole’s promotion to managing director of Cubic Transportation Systems’ Australasia operations. Before Joining Cubic, Wei was vice president of finance for ERG Transit Systems.

• Transit tracking system manufacturer Eta Phi Systems announce it is changing its name to ETA Transit Systems.

• RailRunner N.A. has been designated as an "effective technology" for bi-modal transport by Studiegesellchaft für den Kombinierten Verkehr (SGKV), according to RailRunner. SGKV recently studied existing intermodal transport technologies with regard to their operational efficiencies, capital costs and environmental implications. The study analyzed the competing technologies in transporting 45-foot European containers, 40-foot ISO containers, 20-foot tank containers, swap bodies, semi-trailers and roll-on/roll-off systems.

• Alistair Sawers was named a principal cunsultant in the finance and investment group at Parsons Brinckerhoff. He will advise clients on public-private partnership opportunities and infrastructure finance. Sawers has 16 years of experience in project and infrastructure finance for public-private partnership projects and acquisitions across all sectors of infrastructure.
