• R.J. Corman Railpower has obtained a contract to supply a repowered RP14BD GenSet locomotive to the Port of Corpus Christi Authority in Texas. Delivery is planned for late summer. Partially funded through the national clean diesel funding assistance program’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act, the locomotive is designed to reduce fuel usage and greenhouse gas emissions.

• Canpotex Ltd. plans to build a rail-car maintenance and staging facility in Saskatchewan, Canada. The $57.8 million facility is designed to provide all-weather inspection and light repair, wash and wheel maintenance services for Canpotex’s 5,000-car fleet. Construction is expected to begin in May and conclude by fall 2012.

• Hub Group Inc. reported net income of $10.5 million, or 28 cents per diluted share, for the first quarter, a 22 percent increase compared with earnings a year ago. Quarterly results include $1.7 million in costs related to the Mode Transportation acquisition. Hub’s revenue rose 16 percent to $485 million vs. $417 million a year ago. The increase was attributed to a 13 percent jump in volume, a 7 percent rise in fuel costs and a 3 percent price increase, which was partially offset by a 6 percent decrease for mix. “At the start of our 40th year, we believe that our outstanding operational results, combined with our recent acquisition of Mode Transportation, position Hub Group to have a very strong 2011 with revenue that will exceed $2.5 billion,” Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Yeager said in a prepared statement.

• Boris Fyerman has been named a senior supervising engineer in the Los Angeles office of Parsons Brinckerhoff. He will be responsible for traction power design and coordination, and will work on the Westside Subway Extension, the Regional Connector, Phase 2 of the Expo light-rail and the Gold Line Foothill Extension. Fyerman has more than 40 years of experience as an electrical engineer for industrial, power plant and transit applications.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff also named John Jacobsen supervising architect in the L.A. office, where he will develop detailed designs for transit and light-rail projects. Jacobsen has extensive experience as an architect and designer of transportation and other facilities in the United States and abroad. His previous experience includes developing the yard and shops design for the Bay Area Rapid Transit extension to San Jose and Santa Clara; serving as project architect for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) Red Line’s Hollywood and Vine subway station; and designing the yards and shops for the LACMTA Gold Line.
