• The Montreal Port Authority recently signed an agreement with R.J. Corman Railpower to purchase a multiple-generator, 2,000-horsepower GenSet locomotive for $1.6 million. The agreement includes an option for four additional locomotives. The port authority’s  aim: reduce diesel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, said President and Chief Executive Officer Sylvie Vachon in a prepared statement. The purchase was made with federal assistance under Transport Canada’s ecoFREIGHT program.

• Following notices of interest submitted to the Societe de Transport de Montreal (STM) by Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocariles S.A. and Zhouzhou Electric Locomotive Ltd. regarding the replacement of STM metro cars, a Bombardier Transportation/Alstom consortium issued the following statement on Monday: “The consortium … is ready to begin work on this contract immediately.” In December 2008, the Bombardier/Alstom consortium was the sole bidder on an invitation for solicitations from STM for the Montreal car-replacement program. At STM’s invitation, the consortium was involved in “detailed negotiations with the agency to agree precisely on expectations and align their first response” to STM’s technical, financial and commercial requirements, according to a Bombardier/Alstom statement. “The people of Montreal have waited long enough,” said Bombardier Transportation North America President Raymond Bachant. “We are ready to get down to work.”

• Kenco Logistic Services L.L.C. subsidiary Kal-Serv and Schnellecke of America L.L.C. have formed Team 3 Logistics L.L.C., a joint venture offering logistics solutions to support a growing number of automotive manufacturing plants in the southeastern United States. With headquarters in Chattanooga, Tenn., Kenco offers warehousing and logistics services in the Southeast; Schnellecke is a global provider of supply chain solutions for automotive manufacturers in Europe, China, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa.

• System Logistics Corp., previously known as Diamond Phoenix, has launched the Supply Chain Solutions Group, a team of “intra-logistics implementation experts” comprising individuals with large material handling system implementation experience, according to a prepared statement.

• James Boice has joined STV as manager of transportation policy and planning. Boice worked as a transportation professional in the Connecticut Department of Transportation for more than 30 years, most recently as deputy commissioner — a position he retired from in 2009. He’ll be based in STV’s Stratford, Conn., office.
