• RailComm has been selected to provide a wireless remote control derail system at Amtrak’s maintenance facility near Miami. Two customized local control panels, located within the maintenance building, will provide wireless remote control to the derails. The panels include a keypad for advanced security and logging.
• Dell Services announced it has signed a contract with BNSF Railway Co. to provide end-user computing support, integrated service desk support, field services and managed print services. Dell Services will provide automated processes and tools to support end-user devices and develop customized process flows for the end-user computing environment.
• The Florida Department of Transportation has hired HDR to update and maintain its rail highway crossing inventory database and related sources, documents and tools.
• Nomad Digital Ltd. has been granted a license by UK regulator and competition authority Ofcom to operate in radio spectrum managed by the UK's Civil Aviation Authority in the band 5.01 to 5.02 GHz. The licensed spectrum will be used by Nomad to provide IP connectivity to trains to enable a range of services, such as enhanced passenger information and remote maintenance.
• The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) announced that Brenny Transportation is the first recipient of TIA’s 3PL Samaritan Award. The award recognizes humanitarian efforts within the transportation industry.
