• RailComm officials announced the company has provided a wireless remote-control yard system at a major western railroad’s yard in Texas, which RailComm declined to identify. The RailComm Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) System provides remote control to several GE Transportation HydraSwitch machines.
• The Community of European Railways, the Association of the European Rail Industry and the European Rail Infrastructure Managers have presented Knorr-Bremse Austria with the European Railway Award for technical achievement in the development and industrialization of the eddy-current brake. The brake has been in commercial service for nine years in ICE 3 trainsets in Germany and abroad, and also is installed in the latest Velaro platform, according to Knorr-Bremse.
• Trimble has announced a new addition, the GEDO CE Trolley System, to its railway products. The trolley system and software are designed to provide as-built survey and documentation for railway track maintenance and modernization. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based technology firm acquired the GEDO CE Trolley System and software from Sinning Vermessungsbedarf GmbH of Wiesentheid, Bavaria, Germany.
