• RailWorks Corp. named Gordon Strilchuk vice president of signals and communications for its Canadian subsidiary PNR RailWorks Inc. Strilchuk joined RailWorks in 2004 to develop the company’s signals and communications division. Prior to that, he served CN in various capacities for 30 years.

• Cattron Group International has contracted TTechTrain S.A. de C.V. to represent the company in Mexico. TTechTrain will handle all brands for the rail and industrial markets. Cattron provides radio frequency and industrial remote-control products to railroads, shipyards, mining companies and other industries.

• Unitrac Railroad Materials Inc. obtained a $2.2 million special trackwork contract from MTA Metro-North Railroad. A wholly owned subsidiary of Healey Railroad Corp., Unitrac manufactures specialty trackwork and distributes new and relay rail.

• Holland L.P. is using a medium-term insurance policy from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) to support the export of railroad track equipment to a private-sector buyer in Brazil. Ex-Im Bank insured a $1.7 million loan from PNC Bank to enable Holland to sell two complete in-track welding systems to Concrenor Indústria e Comércio Ltda., a subsidiary of SPA Engenharia Indústria e Comércio. "Brazil is a powerhouse among emerging markets and offers great opportunities for U.S. companies,” said Ex-Im Bank Chairman and President Fred Hochberg in a prepared statement. The exported equipment will be used to refurbish a 110-mile stretch of the Ferrovia Norte-Sul rail line in the state of Tocantins.

• Invensys Rail recently opened a dedicated project office in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is in the process of recruiting a local team and identifying local partners. The Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce played a key role in helping Invensys Rail realize its plans for the office, according to a prepared statement. The company expects to rely on the chamber’s extensive knowledge of both the U.K. and Denmark to help develop business opportunities.

• Bombardier Transportation received an “exceptional performance and outstanding achievement” award for the Olympic Line at the CUTA 2010 annual conference in Ottawa, Canada. Olympic Line co-sponsors Bombardier and the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, provided free rides between Jan. 21 and March 21. Two streetcars operated by Bombardier carried more than 550,000 passengers with no equipment failures, station delays or injuries, Bombardier officials said in a prepared statement.

• Metal products manufacturer Diamond Group recently entered the railroad business by developing quick-replacement aluminum signal boxes. Rusted, corroding and contaminated signal boxes can be replaced in four hours vs. traditional methods that require five days, Diamond Group officials said in a prepared statement.
