• Siemens Mobility Division, Tangshan Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd., Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd. and the Chinese Academy of Railways have signed an extensive contract to supply 100 high-speed trains in China. Siemen’s share of the contract totals about $1 billion to supply various components, such as electrical equipment and bogies. Seventy of the new-generation high-speed trains will be built in Tangshan, China, and 30 will be assembled in Changchun, China. Siemens will manufacture parts in Krefeld-Uerdingen and Nuremberg, Germany); Graz, Austria; and Shanghai, Tianjin and Jinan, China. The first train is scheduled to enter service at 2010’s end.
• Wabtec Corp. has received additional orders totaling about $75 million to supply components for MTA New York City Transit subway cars purchased under the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority's R-160 program. Wabetc will provide various components — including brakes, couplers, door operators and panels, and event recorders — for the second-option order of 382 cars, which will be delivered during the next two years. Under the R-160 program, NYCT now has ordered 1,662 cars from Alstom Transport and Kawasaki.
• RailComm Inc. recently provided a wireless remote-control yard system for CSX Transportation’s Erwin Terminal in Tennessee. Three RailComm local control panels provide remote-control functionality to 31 GE Transportation HydraSwitch power switch machines. RailComm also configured its Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) system to control all switches individually and provided eNtrance eXit (NX) routing functionality. In addition, RailComm’s 2.4 GHz RADiANT™ data radios provide a wireless communications network to link the terminal’s office and control panels with field locations.
