• THE Partnership joint venture comprising Parsons Brinckerhoff, AECOM Technology Corp. and STV Inc. won a $111 contract from New Jersey Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to complete final design and prepare bid packages for the 3.5-mile Trans-Hudson Express (THE) Tunnel. The project calls for building two new tracks in New Jersey’s Meadowlands and two new single-track tunnels under the Hudson River, expanding Penn Station under 34th Street and constructing train-storage facilities in Kearny, N.J.

• RailComm Inc. announced that the Transportation Technology Center Inc. is incorporating its Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) track warrant control (TWC) system into training programs. The training system will include RailComm’s standard TWC capabilities and an interface to Lockheed Martin Corp.’s Computer-Based Authorization System positive train-control system. The DOC software-based control system is a command, control, communications and information server-based platform designed to support a variety of applications.

• Rail signaling and control systems supplier Invensys Rail has named Richard Prophet global sales director. He will be based at the company’s United Kingdom headquarters in Chippenham, England. Prophet most recently was vice president of international sales for Cable & Wireless Worldwide. He previously held various senior positions with information technology firms Lucent and Compaq.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) has named Rob Ball senior project manager and assistant vice president in the Los Angeles office. He will head major transit projects in southern California. Ball has more than 32 years of public transportation industry experience and previously served PB from 1985 to 1989 and 1999 to 2007. During his career, he helped implement several major light-rail projects, including Denver RTD’s FasTracks program, the Phoenix Metro, L.A. Metro’s Blue and Gold lines, and Vancouver’s Sky Train.

• North American Technologies Group Inc. (NATK) reported a net loss of $2.9 million and revenue of $32.8 million for its fiscal year, which ended Sept. 28, 2008. Sales increased 51 percent compared with FY2007. The company — which owns plastic composite crosstie supplier TieTek — couldn’t obtain the necessary information to prepare financial statements for FY2008 until an internal investigation was conducted by outside legal counsel into alleged misappropriation of company funds by former Chief Executive Officer Rod Wallace, NATK said. The company fired Wallace on Feb. 26.
