• GO Transit exercised an option with Wabtec Corp. to provide an additional 20 MPXpress® commuter locomotives for $85 million. An original order called for 27 locomotives, which have been delivered. The locomotives will be built at MotivePower's Boise, Idaho, facility and delivered from late 2009 through 2010.

• RFTrax has appointed Roger Keyte as president. He joined the company, which provides wireless monitoring equipment to the rail industry, in July 2008. Keyte has held various sales, marketing, research and development, and strategic acquisition positions in the manufacturing and service sectors, including a stint at Texas Instruments. RFTrax also promoted John Felty to vice president. He will be responsible for sales, marketing and new business development. Felty has held various business development and sales management positions at RFTrax since 2005.

• The Dakota Missouri Valley & Western Railroad is field testing a prototype coal-car cover designed and manufactured by Structural Composites of Indiana Inc. Installed on an AutoFlood III™ automatic-discharge aluminum open-top hopper coal car built by FreightCar America Inc., the fiberglass, one-piece cover will be subjected to North Dakota’s winter conditions over a period of weeks and continually monitored for performance. The cover is designed to prevent dust emission, retain coal particles and improve aerodynamics.

• FreightScan L.L.C. has relocated from Solana Beach, Calif., to a larger Carlsbad, Calif., facility to accommodate growth. The new facility combines the company’s headquarters with engineering to integrate the executive team with product development and deployment, FreightScan said. The company provides automated dimensioning systems for the freight and logistics industries.
