Updates from Westinghouse Air Brake and FreightCar America

• The U.S. Department of Transportation recently awarded Westinghouse Air Brake Corp. a $500,000 Railroad Safety Technology Program grant. The company will use the funds to "improve positive train control track database verification and validation," according to a prepared statement issued by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).
• FreightCar America Inc. named Kevin Knarr vice president, services. He's responsible for the newly formed FreightCar Rail Services, as well as FreightCar America's rail-car parts business and customer service. Earlier this month, FreightCar America completed its acquisition of DTE Rail Services' business assets.
