Virginia Railway Express (VRE) soon will begin conducting random security checks onboard trains using dogs trained to detect explosives.

Provided by federal, state and local sources, the dogs will board randomly selected trains, perform inspections and deboard before the train departs. Part of VRE’s ongoing security efforts, the K-9 inspections are not a response to a specific threat or warning, according to a prepared statement.
