Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Last week, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) sold the 122-mile NA Towner line to V&S Railway Inc. for $10.3 million.
V&S will operate the line — which the state of Colorado purchased in 1998 — but CDOT can repurchase the segment if the railroad tries to abandon the line.
From 1999 to 2005, the Colorado, Kansas and Pacific Railroad operated the line under a lease-purchase agreement with CDOT. After the lease expired, the state sought a new operator.
V&S also operates railroads in California and Manitoba, Canada.
