Van de Water to chair National Mediation Board

The National Mediation Board (NMB) recently named Read Van de Water chairman. She has served as a board member since December 2003.
Van de Water previously held positions as assistant secretary for aviation and international affairs at the U.S. Department of Transportation; legislative counsel for international trade and investment at The Business Roundtable; and legislative counsel and director of government affairs at Northwest Airlines. She also served Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) as appropriations associate and legislative assistant.
An independent federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, the NMB governs labor-management issues for about 500 railroads and 100 airlines. Edward J. Fitzmaurice Jr. and Harry Hoglander currently serve on the board with Van de Water.
