Virginia Railway Express to hike fares next month
advertisement
On June 27, Virginia Railway Express will institute a fare increase to help offset rising operating costs.
To cover expenses, the agency needs to increase revenue 5.5 percent, or about $1 million, in fiscal-year 2006. VRE will obtain $525,000 of the necessary funds from member jurisdictions, which are increasing their fiscal-year 2006 subsidies. The agency will cover the remainder through the fare increase.
VRE will raise its single-ride and five-day tickets 2.75 percent; 10-ride ticket, 5 percent; and monthly ticket, 1.2 percent. The agency also will increase Amtrak transfer fees to $2.
