Virginia transit schedules available on passengers' personal devices

Virginia Railway Express commuters now can have transit schedules available in the palm of their hand. Launched as a pilot program last year by Arlington County, CommuterPage.com® Mobile Services enables rail and bus commuters to download transit schedules from all northern Virginia transit agencies to their cell phone, palm pilot or handheld computer.

Through a Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation grant, commuters now can access the free service at www.CommuterPage.com/handheld. Passengers also can sign up to have commuter news sent directly to their mobile device.

In a survey conducted last year by Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, 80 percent of respondents believed the use of technology in transit was important, and 35 percent said there should be a greater emphasis on the use of technology to make transit more accessible.
