Voith Turbo introduces diesel-hydraulic six-axle locomotive to European rail market

Last month, Voith Turbo GmbH & Co. KG unveiled the Voith Maxima 40 CC, a newly designed diesel-hydraulic six-axle locomotive.

Featuring a 3,600-kilowatt engine, the locomotive is designed to reach speeds between 75 mph and 99 mph — the most powerful diesel-hydraulic vehicle of its kind in Europe, according to Voith Turbo.

The company’s Lokomotivtechnik division is building a 40 CC model for the freight-rail market. Voith Turbo plans to offer an optional energy supply system for passenger-rail use.

Based in Heidenheim, Germany, Voith Turbo provides hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems for railroad, truck and industrial applications, as well as ship propulsion systems.
