The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently launched an 18-month pilot program to expand Yellow Line service during off-peak hours.
The authority will extend the service beyond the Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street-Convention Center Metrorail station to Fort Totten, providing additional off-peak service to the Shaw-Howard University, African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo, Columbia Heights and Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metrorail stations.
Weekday off-peak trains will operate every six minutes; weeknight and weekend trains will run every seven-and-a-half to 10 minutes.
The program’s $5.75 million cost will be funded by the District of Columbia.
