WMATA opens $17.4 million parking structure
advertisement
Last weekend, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) opened a new parking structure at the White Flint Metrorail station on the Red Line.
The 1,270-space, six-level structure replaces surface parking near the station’s "kiss-and-ride" lot. The $17.4 million facility was funded through proceeds of the White Flint West and Grosvenor site sales, and WMATA’s fiscal-year 2005 Transit infrastructure Investment Fund revenues.
The parking garage is part of a $650 million joint development project under way adjacent to the station. LCOR White Flint L.L.C. is developing a 32-acre parcel under a long-term land lease from WMATA. Plans include constructing a 2.8 million square-foot mixed-use development, including office, retail, restaurant and residential space.
Scheduled to be complete in 2014, the development is expected to generate an additional 6,500 daily trips at the White Flint station.
