Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Facing what it terms a "significant budget shortfall" for fiscal-year 2009, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will hold six public hearings next month to collect public feedback on proposed fare increases that would take effect in January 2008.
Scheduled for Nov. 13, 14 and 15, the hearings will be held in the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland and northern Virginia.
WMATA officials will discuss proposed increases to passenger fares, parking rates and fees, and the reserved parking program, as well as proposed adjustments to bus-to-bus and rail-to-bus transfer procedures.
