July was a good month for Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The agency broke three Metrorail ridership records, including highest-ever weekday average ridership and number of trips.
Metrorail’s weekday ridership averaged 692,864 passengers — an additional 25,302 compared with July 2002.
The agency also made 17,751,667 passenger trips, breaking the previous monthly record of 17,007,908 trips in July 2002.
And on July 30, Metrorail carried 745,627 passengers — its third-highest weekday ridership — to serve the Religious Conference and World Cup Soccer events held in the Washington, D.C. area.
Overall, nine days last month joined WMATA’s top 25 rail-ridership days.
