WMATA sets daily ridership record

Here's something that puts recent transit ridership growth into perspective: Since April, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has recorded 20 of its 25 highest-ever ridership days on the Metrorail system. And a new No. 1 was crowned last week.

On Friday, the agency posted a record 854,638 trips, besting the previous record of 850,636 set in June 2004 on the day of former President Ronald Reagan's funeral. WMATA attributes the newest ridership mark to a Washington Nationals' baseball game, the Women of Faith Conference and tourism.
